About a week ago, I published my first book. *applause*
The Business of Writing | Chelsea D. Snyder
The Business of Writing is a book about the lessons I have learned as a web content manager, writer, small business owner, entrepreneur, and online marketing nerd. It is also a small look into issues with work-life balance, being a single parent, being a parent, a woman, and a human being. Because that is what a book should be about – the experience a person has being a person, doing what people do.
Unfortunately, once I entered into “Club Author” I did not get the kind of fanfare one would expect. There was no smoking jacket or glass of brandy handed to me. There wasn’t even cake. Like any other independent author out there, basically, the book is done and now the rest of it is on me – whether I want to market the book, sell it, print it, or build a poorly-weighted kite with it. That was a little underwhelming, but whatever… I’m an author now!
You see, for as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be an author, a writer… whatever you call it. It was quite the experience (ask me about writing a book, whew!) I wrote The Business of Writing for me, to allow myself the same experience I provide to others, and to maybe reach a few people who were struggling with how to make their lives make sense. When it comes down to it, I wrote a book because I wanted to write a book. I published a book because I wanted to be a published author. It was a rough road at times, and there have been many different stumbling blocks I had not considered when I took on the project.
Still… I’m an author now. That’s badass.
Every morning, I encourage my fellow entrepreneurs and small business owners with random memes, words of inspiration, and all of the F-words you can possibly stand. The Business of Writing is no different – it is just another ginormous meme that says you’re just as badass, and you can make your stupid, stupid dreams come true, too. So… if you have ever thought about writing a book; it is worth every moment of fear, fuckery, and fabulousness you’ve got. If not a book, then whatever your dream project is. Take that chance, work your ass off and make it into something. Life is too short to be stuck on wishes. Get up and make shit happen. You got this.
